The Bayou Chene Floodgate project in St. Mary Parish is currently closed in order to bring in some large barges and equipment for the next phase of construction.
The next phase should begin next week according to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office.
To prevent any hazards to navigation, the Bayou Chene floodgate and one mile to the north and south of it will be closed through 7:00 pm Sunday, December 13, 2020.
In addition to the Bayou Chene Floodgate closure this weekend, the floodgate will be closed nightly from 7 pm-7 am December 14th-23rd. The Bayou Boeuf Lock repairs remain ongoing M-TH 7 am-7 pm, so it will be open during the floodgate closure.
