As coronavirus numbers continue to increase, a Baldwin man says he's beyond thankful after spending three months in the hospital battling the virus.

Roy Greene was welcomed home recently by his church community, where he plays guitar.

His wife, Angela, tells KATC that what her husband lived through is unreal - spending a long period of time in ICU on a ventilator.

12 years ago, Greene had a kidney transplant and his kidneys shut down while battling COVID-19.

Married for 30 years, she tells us the couple is closer now than ever before.

One month into his hospitalization, Angela remembers the moment she was told her husband was awake after being in a medically induced coma.

"One of the ICU nurses called me and said, 'Mr. Greene wants to talk to you. He's asking for you,'" said Mrs. Greene. "And that was just music to my ears. We are so grateful to God because we've been praying. We've been praying."

He's facing setbacks, like re-learning to walk and building muscle, but with his faith and family he says he's ready for the challenge.
