A group of area Scouts decided to do their part in helping in Hurricane Laura relief efforts on Saturday.

Boy Scouts of America Troop 41 and Cub Scout Pack 242 of Patterson joined up with Boy Scouts of America Troop 49 and Cub Scout Pack 438 out of Morgan City to raise money to purchase supplies for first responders in Calcasieu Parish. The supplies were donated to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, Lake Charles Police Department, Lake Charles Fire Department, and multiple line crews.

The Scouts and their parents then cooked a jambalaya plate lunch and served more than 800 plates to those on the front lines.

"It was an amazing sight to watch these Scouts serve these strangers with a smile on their face and go out of their way to make sure the walkups had drinks and food," said Scoutmaster for Troop 41 Jeremy Price.
