The 85th Shrimp and Petroleum Festival in Morgan City will be "on hold" until further notice.

In a statement release this week, organizers say the the reason for the hold is due to coronavirus health concerns and the current economic status in the state.

"We have decided that asking our sponsors to participate in this year's festival could be detrimental to future festivals, as many people and businesses in our community have been presented with financial hardships resulting from the virus," a release states.

The Board of Directors will continue to monitor changes and will update as restrictions change.

The festival, which is one of Louisiana's oldest charter festivals happens on Labor Day weekend.
