Thursday crash on Hwy 182 claims the life of a St. Martinville man

A St. Martinville man is dead following a two-vehicle crash Thursday evening on LA Hwy 182 near Boudreaux Road in St. Martin Parish.

Troopers say the June 4 crash claimed the life of 46-year-old Brandon Jeanbatiste.

According to troopers, an investigation revealed that Jeanbatiste was traveling west on LA 182 when another other vehicle, driven by a 16-year-old liscensed driver, failed to negotiate a turn and crossed the center line.

Troopers say the vehicle entered into the westbound lane and struck Jeanbatiste's vehicle head-on.

Jeanbatiste was restrained at the time of the crash, but troopers say he received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Martin Parish Coroner's Office.

The 16-year-old driver and passenger of the other vehicle were also restrained at the time of the crash. Troopers say the passenger was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. The driver was uninjured.

Toxicology samples were take from Jeanbatiste and results, according to LSP, are pending.

The 16-year-old driver submitted a breath sample which troopers say indicated no alcohol was present.

An investigation into the crash in ongoing. Other charges are pending, state police say.
