St. Martinville Police Chief Ricky Martin and the police department announced that they are in the process of organizing a Community Advisory Committee.
According to Martin, the committee will consist of several community members from each district of the city as a direct link to the police department and a liaison between the police department and the public. He states that the committee members will be educated in police department functions and will help us educate the community.
"This will be a one-of-a-kind type of transparency," Martin explained in a release.
The following aspects will be included in the committee:
Criminal Investigation Process
Court Process
Department Discipline Process
Civil Service
Department Policy
Arresting procedures
Use of force procedures
City Charter
Ride Along with Officers
Police Department Finances
Crash Review Board Process
Speaking to new hires prior to completion of hiring process.
Martin says that the committee will meet once a month, in a public meeting with the Police Chief present to address any questions or concerns from the citizens of St Martinville. Anything that is public record can be discussed.
Anyone interested in being a committee member is asked to contact Chief Martin by phone (337) 394-3001 or by email: rmartin@stmartinvillepolice.org
"If you want to make a positive change in our community and bridge the gap between the police and community, this is your chance to be involved in a positive movement in the right direction," Martin said.
