Following a possible abduction attempt in St. Martin Parish, Sheriff Becket Breaux is sharing details and tips that could help anyone in a similar situation.

According to Sheriff Breaux, a young woman was driving on Terrace Highway (LA 96) at around 11 p.m., when a white Camry with no license plate and dark tinted windows attempted to run her off the road. The driver of the Camry followed the woman from Lafayette Parish to St. Martin Parish, about 4-5 miles, according to the sheriff's office. The woman was able to turn into the parking lot of the sheriff's office training academy off Terrace. The vehicle followed her in, then turned around and exited the same way it had entered. The woman then drove away.

The sheriff said he and his department aren't taking the incident lightly.

"We're going to prosecute you, we're going to charge you to the fullest extent of the law," he said.

Sheriff Breaux said that anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation should call 911 or the sheriff's office immediately, be mindful of their location, never pull over, and stay on the phone. A sheriff's deputy or dispatcher can provide directions to a safe location.

"They'll give you instructions to keep you safe," Becket added. "That's our job."

Anyone with information on this incident or the vehicle should call the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office at (337) 394-3071.
