St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office announces dates of Hunter Safety Courses

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office will once again be providing the Hunter Safety Course at the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office Shooting Range located at 1381 Francois Road, St. Martinville, LA 70582.

Those persons born on or after September 1, 1969, must successfully complete a Hunter Education Course in order to hunt in the State of Louisiana.

The course is free of charge and is open to all ages, however, only those persons who are 10 years of age or older are eligible for certification.

On Saturday, a parent or guardian must check in with instructors before leaving an unattended child, however; on Sunday, it will be mandatory that a parent or guardian remain at the facility for the duration of the class.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive their Louisiana Hunter Education Certification Card that is recognized by all states and provinces that require hunter education. Each course is limited to 25 students and students must attend both days in order to receive their certification.

This is not a field day course.

Lunch will be provided by the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office on Saturday for both the September and October sessions. Please DO NOT bring any firearms or ammunition to the class.

The dates for the classes are as follows:

Saturday, September 14, 2019, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Sunday, September 15, 2019 8:00 am - 11:00 am

Saturday, October 19, 2019 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Sunday, October 20, 2019 8:00 am - 11:00 am

To register for the course, do so by logging on to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries website: www.wlf.louisiana.gov and click on Hunter's Education under the Hunting Topic.
