Police: Breaux Bridge teen victim in Henderson drowning

The victim of a drowning near Bayou Amy boat landing in Henderson has been identified as a Breaux Bridge teen.

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office says that the drowning happened Tuesday at around 11:40 a.m. Upon arrival, Deputies with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office learned that a group of teens were swimming in the bayou, when one of them showed signs of distress and then failed to resurface.

Attempts were made by the group to rescue the victim, identified as a 17-year-old from Breaux Bridge.

Batiste's body was recovered a short time later with the assistance of Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries and the Henderson Police Department.
