Tuesday is a special day for one Acadiana resident, and his community came together to honor him in a noteworthy way.

Breaux Bridge native Sid Hardy is a World War II veteran and Tuesday he celebrated his 98th birthday.

The community decided to commemorate the occasion by holding a small ceremony at Breaux Bridge City Hall. At the ceremony, Mayor Ricky Calais declared Sept. 15th as Sid Hardy Day in the city.

"We wanted to take a minute to tell Mr. Sid how much we appreciate him, and not just us but the whole community of Breaux Bridge because folks like him mean so much to us, and really have meant so much to our community so we wanted to say thank you and happy birthday," said organizer Bruce Montesano.
