Santa was at Landmark of Acadiana in St. Martin Parish delivering fruit baskets and Christmas cheer to residents.
The family of John Smith say it's a tradition that has been going on for over three decades. After his death, his son Maurice stepped up and with the help of his aunt Shirley Simon, the tradition lives on.
The group says Smith did this day of giving for 35 years and the new helpers have been at it for the past 4 years.
"It's a legacy for my brother that I know he would want us to continue," Shirley Simon said.
On Monday, in the spirit of Christmas, the family took on Smith's mission to give back to the community. Santa Smith and his helpers passed out fruits and other goodies to the residents at Landmark of Acadiana.
"It means a lot to see the smile on their faces, for them to see Santa," Simon stated.
