St. Martinville Police say several complaints have been made this month regarding the use of counterfeit money in online exchanges of goods.
The "prop money" which is used for motion picture purposes, has been used to target exchanges involving electronics such as video games and cell phones.
According to police, scammers use the money while completing online exchanges like those set up through Facebook Marketplace or similar services.
To avoid the chance of being scammed, St. Martinville Police say that those exchanges should be conducted at the SMPD's safe exchange location. The area is located at police headquarters and is monitored twenty-four hours a day by surveillance cameras.
St. Martinville Police say that the one hundred pieces of $100 prop bills, some of which have been distributed in the city, can be easily purchased from retail sites that specialize in prop money.
