An 86-year-old New Iberia man has died from injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle crash on US Highway 90 in St. Martin Parish on June 10.

State Police say the crash occurred near Le Triomphe on Hwy 90 around 7:45 am.

Troopers say Purvis Picard of New Iberia died Saturday, June 20, from injuries sustained in the crash.

An investigation by State Police revealed that Picard was driving westbound on US 90 when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle struck the rear of a flat-bed trailer being pulled by an 18-wheeler that was stationary in the left turn lane.

Troopers believe that poor visibility due to weather is suspected to be a factor in the crash.

Both Picard and his passenger were restrained at the time of the crash and both refused medical attention at the scene.

Troopers say that later that same day Picard was taken by a family member to a local hospital where he died of his injuries on June 20.

The crash remains under investigation.
