A GoFundMe page has been created for the two sanitation workers who helped police find a missing 10-year-old girl from New Iberia.

Pelican Waste & Debris created the fund for those wishing to donate to the two heroes, Dion Merrick and Brandon Antoine.

Merrick and Antoine were on their Pelican Waste garbage truck route on Monday morning, February 8, when they saw a silver sedan in a field along Plantation Highway in St. Martinville.

The vehicle matched the description of the one given out by police in the search for a 10-year-old who had been abducted the day before.

Merrick used his truck to stop the sedan from leaving the field and called 911.

On the GoFundMe page, Pelican Waste & Debris thanked their two employees for their actions:

"At Pelican Waste we strive for a family atmosphere and try to emanate that to our workers. We are super proud of the genuine efforts by these valued employees now and always. In fact, all of our Pelican Waste team have been heroically working without fail during the pandemic quietly, professionally, and consistently serving the communities where we collect garbage & debris. They often respond in other ways while on the road. This was an exceptional thing that may very well have saved a little girl’s life."

Merrick confirmed to KATC that the GoFundMe page is legitimate. To donate to Dion and Brandon, click here.
