Some might call them brave souls, others might call them crazy. Whatever your thoughts, a group of men from the The Hammocks Subdivision Old Man Club in Breaux Bridge took their first polar plunge.
The group of 5 men lined up around a backyard pool readying themselves to take the plunge. On the count of three, they all went in. With temperatures at or around 25 degrees in Breaux Bridge as of 10:00 a.m. it is no surprise that the group raced out of the pool shortly after splashdown.
Shrieks and yells can be heard as they race up the stairs and out of the pool and out of the cold.
A big thanks to Bryon Guidry for providing the very chilly video to KATC.
According to several sources, A polar bear plunge is an event held during the winter where participants enter a body of water when temperatures are quite low. Most plunges across the US are done to raise money for charities.
The quick dip in Breaux Bridge was quite the sight but a warning to others interested in taking on such a challenge. A polar plunge does come with some dangers due to exposure to extreme temperatures and water. For more information on the dangersclick here from the Canadian Red Cross.
