Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a Breaux Bridge man for alleged night hunting violations in St. Martin Parish.

Agents say they cited 56-year-old Wallace Vicknair of Breaux Bridge on December 9 for taking an antlerless deer during illegal hours and hunting on Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) lands without a permit from the owner/lessee.

LDWF says they received a complaint that Vicknair was on a DMAP property near Henderson in possession of an antlerless deer. Agents responded to the property and could not find Vicknair, but they located a harvested antlerless deer that was shot with a rifle.

Agents made contact with Vicknair on an adjacent property where he admitted to killing the deer the night before at approximately 10:00 p.m. Agent seized Vicknair’s .30-06 Remington rifle and the antlerless deer.

LDWF says tht Hunting or taking deer during illegal hours brings a fine of $900 to $950 and up to 120 days in jail. Hunting on DMAP lands without a permit from the owner/lessee carries a $100 to $350 fine and up to 60 days in jail.

Vicknair also faces civil restitution totaling $1,624 for the replacement value of the illegally taken antlerless deer.
