A Breaux Bridge church is still holding services - but still practicing social distancing.

New Beginning Fellowship Church had a drive-in service today, where attendees were asked to stay inside their cars.

The "come as you are, stay in your car" service was held outside, with a stage set up for the worship leaders and congregants sitting in their vehicles.

"I guess you could say we had a church without walls today," said Rene Armentor, worship leader. "We just got together with the ones who wanted to come and worship with us. They know under the circumstances we can't be in the building. So we set up a stage outside, and they sat in their cars, and we had church."

The church also is live-streaming for those who want to stay home, he said.

"You have to make the best of things. Life is always going to be complicated, but things could be a whole lot worse. We just need to make the best of things and know that God is in control," Armentor said.

Armentor said he really enjoyed the service, during which some folks opened their sunroofs to stand up. The church will continue the outdoor services every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. while the stay-at-home order is in place. he said he hopes that those who attended felt better.

"I hope they were refreshed in the Lord, and i hope they were encouraged to be with their brothers and sisters in Christ, even if it was in the vehicle next to them," he said. "I hope they go home and say it is what it is, but we're going to praise Him through the good times and bad times."
