Bayou Teche Water Works shuts down system, issues boil order

The Bayou Teche water works has provided more information on their water issues, saying water will be turned on and off periodically.

The water works will turn ON water Thursday February 18 from 6:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M.. Water will be turned OFF at 10:00 P.M. and will be turned ON at 6:00 A.M Friday February 19.

They say that if water usage is not excessive on Friday February 19 and the system can keep up with demand the water will remain on. The management of the Bayou Teche water works has requested that water be used for only essential purposes until further notice. If you have a leak on your lines you are requested to turn off your water until that leak is repaired.

Water that is registered through your meter will be billed at standard rates. If the demand exceeds plant and storage tank capacity on Friday February 19 the water will be turned OFF again.

THE BOIL WATER ADVISORY ISSUED THE BAYOU TECHE WATER WORKS IS STILL IN EFFECT AND WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

The Bayou Teche water works serves the area between St. Martinville to New Iberia to the east to the Loureauville area.

Customers are advised to boil their water for three full minutes before consuming.
