ST. MARTINVILLE, La. - A 45-year-old St. Martinville man has been arrested in a fatal hit-and-run crash involving an ATV.

Lamont Wiltz was arrested Tuesday for the crash that killed 36-year-old Jamaal Anthony James, according TFC Thomas Gossen, spokesperson for Louisiana State Police Troop I.

The crash happened just before 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2020, near Big Apple Lane in St. Martin Parish.

Police say James was traveling northbound on LA Hwy 31 on a 2008 Honda four wheeler. At the same time, Wiltz was also traveling northbound and struck the ATV causing it to leave the roadway. After leaving the roadway, the ATV entered a ditch and James was ejected, the trooper said.

James sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Lamont Wiltz was arrested on charges of hit and run, operating vehicle with license suspended and no proof of insurance.

He was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail.
