BREAUX BRIDGE, La. — The 6th annual Treble on the Teche camp wrapped up on Wednesday, November 25 with an impromptu jam session after their planned concert was rained out.
Campers had planned to be joined by their instructors for the performance in the courtyard of the Teche Center for the Arts in Breaux Bridge.
The camp began on November 23 and brought in local musicians and artists to teach 20 students in grades 2 through 8.
For three days during the Thanksgiving week, students learned a variety of disciplines including music, art, and Louisiana French culture. Students also had the opportunity to learn percussion, accordion, guitar, and fiddle.
While the COVID-19 pandemic restricted certain aspects of the camp, director Brazos Huval said campers were understanding.
"There's certain things we couldn't do, like dance class and singing classes," Huval explained. "The final concert, we were going to do it outside, but the rain put a damper on that. I think with everything going on this year, everyone has been patient."
TCA says that they are working to recruit more scholarship students and provide scholarships to 13 students who may be underserved in St. Martin Parish.
