A group of volunteers with Louisiana Hospice & Palliative Care presented the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Department with prayer cloths on Wednesday.

The volunteers made a total of 317 prayer cloths to be handed out to members of the department as a token of appreciation and support.

The crochet prayer cloths were made by members of the Creating Comfort Group.

The care group says that prayer cloths have been made for patients, men in local nursing homes for Father's Day and now for law enforcement.

"It all started with making lap blankets for our patients, and then making prayer cloths," explained Debbie Chenevert. "It was their desire to make the prayer cloths for the sheriff's department, and for the police, here in town and in St. Landry Parish."

Anyone interested in becoming a hospice volunteer can contact Linda at 948-8835 or visit the Louisiana Hospice & Palliative Care Center on Heather Drive in Opelousas to fill out an application.
