A public meeting was held Saturday in Opelousas to allow residents the chance to share their vision for the future of the city's downtown area.

The meeting was held at St. Landry Parish Courthouse Square, 118 S. Court Street in Opelousas.

Saturday's meeting featured vision boards of ideas already collected by the Opelousas Downtown Development District. Citizens were invited to weigh in and share their thoughts on the ideas.

The event, sponsored by the Downtown Development District in partnership with the City of Opelousas, was the 3rd public input event in a series of events that support the development of a master plan to revitalize the center of the city.

Organizers say the meetings are a way of getting everyone involved.

"We want the people to come in on the ground floor and have the opportunity to be part of the master plan," explained Nena Charles, chairwoman of Opelousas Downtown Development District. "I was there when we started; I recommended this portion, then they did this. So when you have to move this ball all the way up this huge hill, a mountain, you want enough people at the bottom pushing it up."
