A teen is dead following an early morning shooting in Opelousas

According to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, the 16-year-old was shot and killed in a incident that happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 20, 2021.

The Sheriff's office says that shortly after the call of the shooting in the 200 block of Gulino Street, the Opelousas Police Department contacted the sheriff’s office and reported that a 16 year old was brought to Opelousas General Hospital north campus with a gunshot wound to the back. The 16 year old later died from his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and no other information was available.
