UPDATE: A 12-year-old died in today's crash in St. Landry Parish, state police say.

Harley Lacomb of Arnaudville died in the crash, which happened around noon on La. 178 near Edwin Street.

The preliminary investigation by State Police revealed Lacomb was a front-seat passenger in a 2005 Honda Accord being driven eastbound on LA Hwy 178. The Accord was struck by a John Deere 5055E tractor with a front-loader attachment being driven by a 60-year-old Sunset man.

Investigators determined the tractor was being used to grade a private roadway when it entered the eastbound lane of travel causing the front-loader attachment to strike the front windshield of the Accord.

The driver of the Accord was properly restrained and was transported to a local hospital with only moderate injuries. Lacomb, who was also restrained, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by St. Landry Parish Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the tractor was ejected from the tractor and was also transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. Impairment is not suspected, but toxicology samples were taken from the drivers for analysis. This crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Louisiana State Troopers would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists to always make good decisions while operating motor vehicles. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted, and follow all traffic laws. Taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.

Troop I has investigated 12 fatal crashes resulting in 14 deaths since the beginning of 2020.
