St. Mary officials respond to suspicious fire on Sunday

Firefighters in St. Mary Parish are investigating a suspicious fire on Big Four Corners Road on Sunday.

The St Mary Parish Fire District 11 was dispatched to Big Four Corners Road near Cypremort Rd for smoke and fire showing at around 2:20 pm.

Upon arrival, responders found heavy flames and smoke coming from a single family home.

Officials with Fire District 11 say that due to no hydrant in the general area water hauling operation was used. Automatic Aid with Jeanerette Fire and Chitimacha Fire was dispatched along with Mutual Aid for Grand Marais (Iberia Fire District 1) for tankers.

District 11 responded with 3 Engines, 1 Service Tanker, and 1 Chief Officer Unit with 17 Firefighters. In all 4 Engines, 1 Service Tanker, 2 Tankers, and 1 Chief Officer Unit responded with 22 Firefighters.

The fire is considered suspicious and the Louisiana State Fire Marshal was contacted to lead the investigation.
