OPELOUSAS, La. — The St. Landry Parish School Board held a special meeting on Tuesday exclusively through video conferencing for its committee meetings to discuss how schools will be cleaned and disinfected ahead of the school year.
The special meeting was held online Monday for the Executive Committee, Finance Committee and Buildings, Lands & Sites Committee.
The board discussed how school custodians and janitors have now cleaning and disinfecting all school sites to prepare for the reopening of schools, where teachers will teach from schools to students virtually at home.
According to the board, school custodians have received special training on proper use of PPE and how not to contaminate themselves by replacing gloves and masks before moving to another area to continue clean and disinfect.
The Executive Committee also discussed several other items including the Emergency Closing of Schools Policy, the Testing Programs Policy, Emergency Family and Medical Leave and Emergency Paid Sick Leave Policy and the Public Health Emergency Policy. These items will now go to the full school board for approval.
The Buildings, Lands & Sites Committee discussed replacing the roofs at Eunice Career & Technical Education Center, Port Barre High, Northeast Elementary and Port Barre Elementary. These items will also go before the full board for approval.
The meeting on Tuesday will discuss the St. Landry Parish School Board's plan for reopening schools in the fall.
