St Landry Parish will hold their Household Hazardous Waste Day Saturday, November 7.

The parish's two recycling centers in Opelousas and Eunice will open for parish residents to drop off hazardous waste materials.

Opelousas
2717 W Landry Street
8:00 am to 12:00 pm

Eunice
450 N. C.C. Duson Street
8:30 am to 12:00 pm

The event is open to all parish residents, who must show proof of residency to participate (driver's license, water bill, etc.)

The collection, according to the parish, is for households only. Large quantities from businesses, farms or commercial operations will not be accepted, they say.

Items being accepted include:

  • Paints
  • automobile batteries
  • motor oil
  • antifreeze
  • household cleaners
  • household chemicals
  • pesticides
  • flammables
  • corrosives
  • medications
  • tires (limit 5 per vehicle)
  • fluorescent tubes and bulbs
  • other hazardous materials
  • electronic waste (computers, monitors, printers, scanners, etc.)
  • cell phones and cell phone batteries

Items NOT being accepted:

  • infectious and medical wastes
  • biological and radioactive materials
  • compressed gas cylinders
  • ammunition
  • fire extinguishers
  • smoke detectors
  • explosives
