St. Landry Parish Superintendent Patrick Jenkins is urging people to step up mitigation efforts during the pandemic.

Jenkins is asking everyone in Acadiana and his parish to practice safety measures such as mask wearing, social distancing, and hand hygiene.

In an email to KATC, Jenkins says 90 percent of the cases in his district are the result of community spread.

He says the cases come from non-school events like house parties, slumber parties, and other indoor gatherings.

Jenkins calls this a "crucial time in our community", and says only collective action from everyone will prevent another spike in cases.
