The St. Landry Parish School Board and Academic Committee narrowing down where they'd like to move the district's alternative school, or CAPS.
Opelousas Junior High and the former North Elementary campus were proposed as site locations.
Several people, including the OJH principal spoke against moving CAPS to that campus, citing the ongoing safety issues.
The group ultimately chose North Elementary.
"North Elementary is an isolated location," said CAPS facilitator Randy Pitre. "Being an alternative school, we need to be isolated so we eliminate the unnecessary interaction with students on a regular campus."
The next step is for the board to vote at their next regular meeting.
