St. Landry EMS performs first Treat-In-Place visit

St. Landry EMS announced that they have performed their first successful Treat-In-Place visit and hopes to make the pilot program available to everyone in the near future.

The Treat-In-Place program was developed by St. Landry EMS in partnership with area healthcare practitioners to relieve pressure from local hospital emergency rooms, officials say.

In the program, patients with low-acuity issues will contact St. Landry EMS directly and request a Treat-In-Place visit. St. Landry EMS will then arrive at the location of the patient, perform a general health check, and video conference a local health professional for a full treatment plan.

The program, St. Landry EMS says, is designed to serve Acadiana residents that would prefer to not risk a trip to the ER during the pandemic, and alleviate pressure in our local hospital emergency rooms.

“This will be a game-changer for our communities and residents and we are excited to support our community in this way during this unprecedented time," said CEO Steven Quebedeaux.
