SUNSET — The St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office has provided more information regarding a body found on Chretien Point Road in Sunset.
Deputies received a call shortly after 7:00 a.m. about a body found in a yard on Chretien Point Road.
The deceased has since been identified as 59-year-old Donnie Joseph Jacobs.
Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with neighbors, who say Jacobs, who also lived on Chretien Point Road, went to a neighbor's home to confront a woman about allegedly stealing money from him.
The man who lived at the house allegedly got into an altercation with Jacobs, and a fist fight ensued inside the house, investigators say.
Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says Jacobs was beaten up pretty badly and walked out of the house.
Later, when the neighbor went to leave the house, they saw Jacobs dead in the yard.
Investigators say it's soon to tell if foul play is suspected. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.
The investigation is ongoing.
