The next girls only Kops & Kids hunting/fishing and camping adventure is scheduled for March 21 to March 22, 2020.

The camp is located in St. Landry Parish with sleeping accommodations and are chaperoned by full time law enforcement officers. The Kops & Kids outdoor activities program is designed to allow children to have an opportunity to experience outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing free of charge, according to Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.

Any child who is 9 - 13 is eligible. To refer a child for a Kops & Kids adventure weekend, contact Debbie Venable at (337) 948- 6844 to make arrangements for an application. Applications must be complete and brought to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff Fleet Office at 1130 West Landry Street in Opelousas.

Sheriff Guidroz and/or members of his staff will review applications and determine if the application is accepted. If accepted, (due to a limited space) you will be instructed to meet at the parish jail parking lot located at 108 South Market St. Opelousas at 8:00 am on March 21. After the camp, pick up for the kids is March 22 at 10:00 am. You will be instructed what to bring. (toothbrushes, personal hygiene items, etc.)

The program is an effort to create an atmosphere of trust between the children and law enforcement, stated Sheriff Guidroz.

This is the 32nd camp that the sheriff's office has sponsored, plans are underway for the next Kops and Kids boys camp.
