The driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal two-vehicle crash in St. Landry Parish has died.
State Police say that on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, they were notified that a second person, 45-year-old Richard Mayeux, of Westlake, died following a crash on LA Hwy 103 on Sunday in St. Landry Parish. 57-year-old Stephanie Soileau, of Ville Platte, died of her injuries following the crash.
On Sunday, January 5, 2020, Troopers began investigating the two-vehicle crash which happened just after 12:15 p.m. on LA Hwy 103 at McGuffy Road. Troopers say that the crash occurred as Soileau was driving North on LA 103, when she failed to negotiate a curve and crossed the center line. After doing so, her vehicle struck a southbound vehicle driven by Mayeux.
Soileau was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition where she died from her injuries. State Police say that Mayeux, the driver of the second vehicle was also properly restrained and transported to a local hospital where he later died that same day.
State Police say that impairment is unknown but standard toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers.
This crash remains under investigation.
