Procession begins for Fête-Dieu du Teche

The Fête-Dieu du Teche is making its way down the Bayou Teche Thursday, August 15.

The 38-mile procession began in Leonville at 8:00 am with a French Mass and will end on Thursday afternoon in St. Martinville.

The procession stops at each town along the bayou for the praying of the rosary and benediction. Participants may drive to gather at any of the planned stops along the Bayou Teche. Priests will be available at each stop for confessions.

Fête-Dieu du Teche marks the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. According to Cajun Travel, it is also recalls the 254th anniversary of the arrival of French-Canadian immigrants.

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office will lead the procession as it makes its way down the bayou.
