ST. LANDRY PARISH — A St. Landry Parish School Board member is asking for permanent buildings at Palmetto Elementary.

The school houses less than 300 children from the Palmetto, Melville and Morrow communities.

They have been in temporary buildings since the main building was condemned.

Denise Rose a District #5 School Board member says she's asking for a multi-purpose building that would give the school a place to have assemblies, and also administrative officers.

"On this campus, the entire school cannot meet at any location on the campus because there's no one room large enough to have programs. As a matter of fact, the school had to actually travel to north central high school to have programs," Rose said.
