ST LANDRY PARISH, La. - Louisiana State Police say a pedestrian was struck and killed Friday night on LA Hwy 182 near Linda Lane

The crash took the life of 50-year-old Ronald Hasselback Jr. of Opelousas.

An investigation into the crash revealed that Hasselback was attempting to walk across the northbound travel lane of LA 182 shortly before 10:00 pm, while dressed in dark clothing, when he was struck by a GMC Terrain, according to TFC Thomas Gossen, spokesperson for the Louisiana State Police Troop I.

Hasselback sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced dead at scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner's Office.

Police say the driver of the GMC was properly restrained and suffered no injuries. She was not impaired, Gossen stated. Standard toxicology samples were taken and will be submitted for analysis.

Troop I has investigated 13 fatal crashes resulting in 15 deaths since the beginning of 2020.
