Parish council makes changes to ordinance regarding mobile homes

OPELOUSAS, La. - The St. Landry Parish Council passed an ordinance at Wednesday night's meeting that will require anyone who wants to put more than two mobile or manufactured homes on one piece of property to get a permit from the council, according to the parish clerk.

Any locations that already have more than one home are grandfathered in, under the current ordinance language.

This ordinance becomes effective on July 20, 2020.

STATE OF LOUISIANA ST. LANDRY PARISH GOVERNMENT ORDINANCE NO. 2020-010

AN ORDINANCE TO PROHIBIT MORE THAN TWO MOBILE HOMES BEING LOCATED ON ONE PIECE OF PROPERTY IN ST. LANDRY PARISH, LOUISIANA
WHEREAS, all tracts of land developed into official subdivisions, including the dimensions of the streets and lots, the structure and building of the houses, townhouses, and apartments, and their water and sewerage access, are approved by the St. Landry Parish Council before completion, and now, to further manage the growth and development of St. Landry Parish, it is necessary for the St. Landry Parish Council to regulate mobile homes in the parish.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL FOR ST. LANDRY PARISH GOVERNMENT THAT all lots, parcels, or tracts of land in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana shall not have more than two mobile homes located on said lot, parcel, or tract of land without applying for and obtaining a permit from the St. Landry Parish Council;

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL FOR ST. LANDRY PARISH GOVERNMENT THAT the term mobile home shall include all manufactured homes;

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL FOR ST. LANDRY PARISH GOVERNMENT THAT this ordinance shall not apply to any lot, parcel, or tract of land that has more than two mobile homes on it on the date that this ordinance becomes effective, and shall not apply to mobile home parks;

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL FOR ST. LANDRY PARISH GOVERNMENT THAT any owner of property in St. Landry Parish, whether they own the property personally, or through a partnership or a corporation, who violates this ordinance by having more than two mobile homes on one lot, parcel, or tract of land, without applying for and obtaining a permit from the St. Landry Parish Council, shall be notified by letter from the St. Landry Parish government that they have thirty (30) days from the date of the letter to apply for a permit from the St. Landry Parish Council or pay a civil fine of $500.00 to the St. Landry Parish government;

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL FOR ST. LANDRY PARISH GOVERNMENT THAT this ordinance shall become effective on July 20, 2020
