A special meeting was held on Monday to address complaints of overcrowding at Opelouas Middle School.

The school, formerly known as South Street Elementary School, re-opened this school year after the closure of two other schools in Opelousas.

After Monday's meeting, a final decision has not been made.

The board is looking at moving the students to two different sites, but where is now the question. There was some discussion to relocate the city's alternative school to another building and use that building to house Opelousas Middle School students.

This caused a debate with some saying the alternative school is built to house the students there for safety reasons while others suggested older sites that once housed students.

One option that was brought to the board was re-opening the North Elementary building.

While the board is looking at these options, they says their main goal is to address the overcrowding issue while keeping students in the city.
