An Opelousas woman is facing a charge of cruelty to a person with infirmities.
According to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, 33-year-old Rachael Lynn Tresner was employed as a caretaker for the victim. On October 12, she brought her three children to the victim's residence, where she cared for both the children and the victim. Tresner left the home around 9:30 a.m. with one of her children for an appointment, leaving the other two at the home with the victim.
Police say Tresner didn't return to the home with her child until 11:45 a.m. Deputies learned that Tresner quit her job as caretaker and left the residence with her three children around noon.
The residence was on generator power, and the victim was concerned about being alone due to being on oxygen, being unable to get out of bed without assistance, and having nothing to eat. Police say the victim was able to contact a family member that evening for assistance.
Tresner later told detectives that she was the victim's caretaker and that the victim was physically unable to care for herself. She also admitted that she left the victim alone and was not planning to return due to being "cussed at by the victim." She added that her children left trash throughout the residence and a trail of human feces on the floor from the bedroom to the bathroom in the victim's residence.
Tresner was booked on October 15 on the charge of cruelty to a person with infirmities. Her bond has been set at $5,000.
