An Opelousas woman was arrested by the State Fire Marshal's Office accused of setting her neighbors car on fire back in August.
Deputies say 59-year-old Janice Barnes was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on one count each of Simple Arson and Conspiracy to Commit Simple Arson.
According to the State Fire Marshal's Office, St. Landry Fire District #3 responded to a vehicle fire on August 15 in the 7600 block of the I-49 Service Road in Opelousas.
The SFM was contacted by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office to help determine the origin and cause of the fire.
After assessing the scene and collecting witness statements, investigators say they determined that the fire was intentionally set.
Deputies say that Barnes was allegedly involved in an ongoing feud with the vehicle's owner who also happens to be her neighbor.
Following a more thorough investigation, deputies say they confirmed Barnes as a suspect in the cases and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
Barnes was arrested by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office on Wednesday, October 21, and booked in connection with the case.
The SFM says that an investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the SFM Arson Hotline at 1-844-954-1221 or share the information through the online tip form at lasfm.org.
Deputies say that a cash reward may be available for tips leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
