A restaurant and law firm in Opelousas hosted a July 4 bike ride Saturday evening for the community to celebrate Independence Day.

Riders of all ages participated and met at Frank's on E. Landry Street at 7 p.m. One rider even went home with an award for Best Patriotic Decorated Bike.

Also sponsoring the ride were local attorney Ledricka Johnson Thierry.

The ride ended at 10 p.m.

Thierry explained why she believed the community event was important.

"It's important for the community to consider doing things that are positive," she said. "Things that are family oriented. We like doing things where we keep our families together. We think those are great memories and it also gives us an opportunity to show off our culture here in St. Landry Parish."
