The Opelousas Police Department says officers are actively investigating a homicide that occurred overnight in the 800 block of Beverly Road.
The Department says that at approximately 3:23 am on November 4, officers were call to a residence for reports of an unresponsive man.
The victim was found inside of a residence suffering from a single gunshot wound. Police say the wound was fatal.
Major Mark Guidry says that officers had responded to the same area earlier on Wednesday morning of a gunshot in the area. He says that officers were unable to locate anything at that time.
This investigation is active and ongoing and victim information will be released at a later time.
