Opelousas Police have arrested a local man in connection with a stabbing that happened in March.

Michael R Fields, 31, was booked with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder and 2nd Degree Battery, records show.

Police say he is accused in connection with a large fight that happened March 16 during the intersection of Westwego and Plaisance streets. It happened after midnight, and Fields allegedly was shot by someone who allegedly saw him stab someone else in the fight.

Police decided the actions of the person who shot Fields constituted self-defense and in defense of the person Fields allegedly stabbed.

Fields was taken into custody after he recovered from the injuries he sustained in the shooting, police said.

The injuries to the stabbing victim were none life threatening.
