St. Landry Parish Sheriff's deputies have arrested an Opelousas man and booked him in connection with a September shooting that left a 17-year-old boy dead.

Kenneth Wayne White, Jr., 22, was booked with Principal to first degree murder.

The incident happened on September 6 on Lofton Street. Four juvenile boys were walking on the street when a 17-year-old boy and an adult male began shooting, deputies say.

One of the four juveniles, a 15 year-old, had a firearm in his possession and returned fire, striking the 17-year-old in the neck area. When questioned by detectives, the juvenile denied having the firearm and stated that he and his four friends were running down Lofton Street when shots were fired in their direction.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that the juvenile did have a firearm in the front waistband of his pants and was observed shooting at the 17-year-old and the adult male.
