A 20-year-old Opelousas man was arrested Friday after deputies say he was allegedly found in possession of a stolen ATV.

St. Landry Parish deputies say Cameron Z. Fontenot was arrested on August 28 after fleeing from officers on an ATV that was later determined to have been stolen.

According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to Bertrand Road to the report of 3 ATVs riding on the road without their lights on. Upon arrival, the three drivers fled the area and a pursuit ensued.

One driver, identified as Fontenot, attempted to turn into a area where his vehicle became stuck.

Deputies say Fontenot tried to flee on foot but was apprehended.

The stolen vehicle was later returned to its owner.

Fontenot was transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail and booked on the following charges:

  • Flight from an Officer
  • Possession of Stolen Things

His bond was set at $6,500.

The sheriff's office says that more arrests are expected in the investigation.
