OPELOUSAS, La. — Across the state, the cleanup continues following Hurricane Delta. In St. Landry Parish, the damage to one family's home was so bad that it forced them to take drastic measures.

In a matter of seconds, Kia Lott went from standing in her home to being homeless.

"I have a tree sitting on top of my house," said Lott. "It's through my roof and its collapsing. At the moment my kids and I don't have anywhere to stay. We've been sleeping in my car."

Lott says she sought help from several local officials, but she hasn't heard back.

"No one's reached out to me so I don't know what to do," she said. "We've just been sleeping in parking lots, me and my two children,"

Lott is new to Louisiana, and she says she is saddened by the lack of help and answers she has received.

"I don't have anywhere to go, no I'm from San Antonio, Texas," she said.

And sleeping in her car is not a sustainable option.

"This sleeping outside it scares me," said Lott. "I don't know what people are capable of and I have to protect my children, you know?"
