OPELOUASAS — The Opelousas Elderly Awareness Seminar unveiled a new program that will provide free transportation to elderly residents in need.
OEAS along with the Opelousas Marshal's Office announced the program. On Wednesday officials gathered to introduce the the new 16 passenger van at the Opelousas Civic Center.
City Marshal Paul Mouton explained, "We had a lot of calls about the elderly not having a ride to go to the doctor or the grocery store, so we went out and we purchased a van."
The van will be used to transport elderly residents to doctors appointments, pharmacies and groceries stores.
