UPDATE (6/18 7:30 p.m.): An Opelousas man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of Aaron Charles on Pujo Street in Opelousas early Thursday morning.

32-year-old Christopher Coleman is facing one charge of second degree murder.

Police responded to a call just after midnight Thursday in reference to someone that had been injured during an altercation. Officers found Charles unresponsive at his residence in the 1600 block of Pujo Street, suffering from multiple stab wounds to his head and neck area.

Officers later learned that Coleman had gone to Charles's residence to confront him about money that was exchanged between Coleman and Charles's family.

Coleman was found in an abandoned residence near the scene of the altercation. After a brief struggle, Coleman was taken into custody. Police say he was not immediately interviewed due to officers detecting that he was in an impaired condition.

Coleman has been booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail.
