One person has been arrested and another is being sought in connection with a Tuesday shooting that seriously injured one person in Opelousas.
Police say that they were called in the early morning hours of February 23 to investigate a shooting in the 800 block of Patsy Street.
One male victim was found struck in the back.
OPD says that the victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
During their investigation, police say they were able to identify Deandra Weston and Markentae Williams, both of Mamou, as suspects in the shooting.
The shooting, they say, was the result of a robbery where a firearm and an undetermined amount of cash were taken.
Warrants were obtained for the arrest of both suspects for attempted first degree murder and armed robbery.
OPD says that on Friday, February 26, investigators with the assistance of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s office and their S.W.A.T. Team were able to take Deandra Weston into custody.
He was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on one count of first degree murder and armed robbery.
Investigators say they are still looking for Markentae Williams for his involvement in the crime.
The department is asking anyone with any information related to this shooting or the whereabouts of Markentae Williams to contact the Opelousas Police Department at 337-948-2500, crimetips@opelousaspd.com or through Crime Stoppers (337-948-TIPS, www.stlandrycrimestoppers.com or by using the P3 mobile App.)
Tipsters can remain anonymous.
