The St. Landry branch of the National Association of University Women has inducted several new members into the Black History Hall of Fame.
The ceremony took place at Plaisance Elementary School Thursday evening.
Inductees included Coach Kenneth Winfrey, Judge Ledricka Johnson-Thierry, Judge Shaunn Callier-Harden, and Attorney Charles Cravins.
Thursday's event also marked the 30th anniversary of the St. Landry branch of the association.
Chairwoman Dr. Savoynne Williams said the association honors those who may normally go unnoticed.
"We recognize people around the area who generally don't get recognized. Those people who sit behind the scenes and make everything work, but yet sometimes people don't notice them
So we are here to notice them," Williams explained. "We're here to give them accolades for everything they've done to help us in the community."
The event was live-streamed on the group's Facebook page due to COVID-19 restrictions.
